Short stories

Exploring writing short stories was initially motivated by the aim to make my non-fiction more engaging. The fiction I managed to conjure up was well-received and some of it ended up in the Autonomous Decisions book. Its 100% fiction for entertainment, although I did have an eye on the possibility that it might also be educational for those who want it to be. Currently, my short stories edge towards reality-inspired fiction with a dose of computing and reflections on their position in society:

Melokuhle — good things, which was published on East of the Web in January 2024. Wheelchair-bound Lubanzi tries to make his somewhat culturally-aware care robot serve him more wine. It’s also the first story in the short story collection Autonomous Decisions.

The outer circle; published on East of the Web in August 2024. A learner challenges his teacher on language varieties of LLMs and the tools (e.g., spelling checkers) that currently use data-driven techniques.

Another short story is under review and more is in the pipeline, so stay tuned!
